Pedregalejo was a poor fishing village for centuries. The beach front still shows some of the old village structure but it has been seriously impaired by modern day renovation techniques.

This said, it is possibly one of the very few spots left on the Costa which is not dominated by high rise buildings.

The area became fashionable during the 1920s and 30s when wealthy Malagueños started building their weekend homes close to the city.

Pedregalejo suffered from the real estate boom just as any other place along the coasts. But some of the old charm has been maintained and the area is currently being rediscovered by a younger generation.

The beach

The local beach is only 200 yards away from our B&B.

Despite not being the most beautiful of its kind it is a popular destination for Malageños. The Pedregalejo playa offers a welcome indigenous alternative to the high rise mass tourism along the coast.

The old fishing village is lined with plenty of bars, restaurants, chiringuitos, and cafés.

Improve your Spanish
